A Sad Story About Love

A Sad Story About Love

I'm not sure when and where it happened. It should be in the past, a long time ago. But I think it might happen again, somewhere in the future.

Anyway, it's just a story.

*     *     *

Somewhere in the world, there stood a tree by a well-traveled route. She was a very beautiful tree and nobody knew her name. When she bloomed, the sky was shined by the red flowers, and the air was diffused of sweets.

Day by day, travelers passed the tree on the road. Everyone thought she was the most beautiful tree they had ever seen. They looked at her, smelled the fragrance of her flowers, and praised her beauty. But, the tree felt very unhappy.

" I need someone whom I can love.  A worthwhile man. My beautiful flowers and sweet perfume should only be shown to my love."

Then, the tree asked the Buddha to give her permission so that she would never flower until she fell in love.

" Yes, you may have this permission." The Buddha answered, " But when you meet the man whom you decide to love, there will be only 5 minutes for you to earn his love."

Then, what would happen? The Buddha didn't tell her, and the tree didn't ask.

500 years had passed. Millions of people had come; millions of people had gone. The tree hadn't found anyone who deserved her love.

One day, there was a young man came on the route, which seemed to have walked for a long time, and looked tired and dusty. Anyway, he was just an ordinary traveler.

But suddenly, it happened! The tree loved the young man as soon as she saw him. She couldn't tell the reason, but fell in love deeply. Something she didn't understand came over and warmed her heart. In the same time, she was in full bloom.

No one in the world has seen such beautiful flowers as the ones she bloomed, even including the young man. Because at that moment, he was looking at his shoes, thinking about..., anyway, that's not important. The point is, when he finally raised his head, he had passed the tree and all the flowers had fallen down.

The sweets of flowers lingered in the air. The pale petals were blown by the wind. But the young man noticed nothing. And he would never realize what had happened in those past 5 minutes.

*    *    *
Well, It's just a story; a sad story about love.

A beautiful tree, waited 500 years for her love, and missed it in 5 minutes.

What is the end of the story? What would happen to the tree? I don't know.

Maybe she would wait for another 500 years. Maybe she would remain sad till she dies.

I really don't know. and I think that's not important.
